Knallertforum.dk – Big Bore Ride

I joined some guys from knallertforum.dk to a ride with tuned mopeds and small motorbikes. I took my Gorilla to the ride, the other guys rode mostly Yamaha FS1 and Kreidler RS models. All heavily modified and registered as motorbikes, to make them road legal and fast.

Some video footage of the ride:

Puch Monza budget racer

A new fun Small Pistons project. We’ve used scrapped parts to build a fast and fun bike. The goal is to make something that doesn’t cost much with a strong engine. We found an old Monza engine, fitted a used Athena 45 mm reed valve cylinderkit, HPI rotor ignition and a 21 mm PHBG carb. We had to buy a few new parts, but over all the budget is still low.

We found a four speed transmission on ebay, the seller thought it was in great shape. The truth is, the primary shaft and 1st gear where totally gone. Luckily i found some old rusty parts in my spares bucket. The rust was easily removed and left no pitting in the important places like the bearing races.

We were not satisfied with the port timings of the Athena kit on this engine. A spacer helped to clear the ports from the piston, and gave a good increase in port duration.

Nikolajs Puch MS engine

Nikolaj is rebuilding his old Puch MS. It had a Puch Monza 2 speed engine mounted, but Nikolaj wanted more. We found an old 3 speed engine, that turned out to be a 4 speed engine, nice! The engine needed many repairs, the casings where cracked and had to be welded. The crankshaft was far gone, no ignition, bad clutch, worn bearings and seals.

Nikolaj MS

We got a lot of new parts, a nice Rito crankshaft, larger 40 mm cylinder kit, new ignition parts, bearings, seals and so on.

YX140 engine

I finally had time to upgrade my Gorilla engine. I swapped the old 8,5 HP 125 ccm engine to a YX 140 ccm with 14 HP. I also upgraded the exhaust to a NHRC upswept carbon model, a Molkt 24 mm carburettor and a lightweight 540g ignition system with better power for the charging system.

Check my gallery on this build, some pictures have further description.

Here is a video of my test ride. I still need to jet the carburettor a bit leaner, and i will mount a bit larger front sprocket. The topspeed is a bit over 100 km/h on a GPS now.
