Yamaha PW 50

Marco bought this cool Yamaha PW 50 for his son. It’s a high quality motocross bike for children, but somehow this one came with toasted main bearings. The previous owner said they forgot to fill the premix oiltank. Oddly enough, the cylinder kit and crankshaft looked fine.

A set of new bearings, some cleaning and a few hours later everything was back together. It didn’t run great right away. The carb was totally clogged from years of standing still. Several runs in the ultrasonic cleaner and some small needles later it started and ran great.

Kreidler RS 5 speed – engine

I bought the cheapest 5 speed engine i could find, it’s in a rough state but should work after a restauration. It’s had a hard life since 1967, maybe as a motocross engine?

RS Engine

I will rebuild everything, a bit of aluminium welding, thread repairs, flattening the mating surfaces, new bearings, seals, crankshaft etc.

The setup will be a 6,25 HP replica, 40 mm cylinder, 20 mm Bing, 32 mm cigar exhaust.

Lets see the progress so far, remember to look for picture comments and check back for more updates in the future.

Kreidler RS 5 speed – frame

Say hi to my latest restoration project. I got a 3 speed Kreidler RMC from my brother, when i found a 5 speed engine i decided to convert and register it as a motorcycle. So it will become a RS model with a 6,25 HP setup. This should be good for 85 km/h, and the police can’t do anything about me riding more than 30 km/h 😉

I will try to reuse as many parts as possible, and keep a bit of patina. I like to use my bikes and not to worry about scratches. So i’m spending many hours with cleaning, bending and buffing.

I’m also swapping the 6V points ignition to a Kokusan 12V CDI model, more on that later.

Lets see the progress so far, remember to look for picture comments and check back for more updates in the future.

Small Pistons Moped Touring 2015

Two weeks ago, nine Small Pistons members went on our annual moped trip. Four days in southern denmark. We started with some heavy rain, but the last three days where wonderful. We had a few breakdowns, but could repair all of them on the road. Big thanks to Kim, he managed to reserve some nice shelters to sleep in every night.

The trip started in Møgeltønder, this was our route:

Allans Puch Monza 2 Speed

My friend Allan bought a Puch Monza 2 speed over a year ago. It was cheap, and in very bad condition. The frame was about the only thing that was good on it, everything else had to be restored or changed to new/used parts.

In this gallery you can see the work we did on the engine:

We had to find a new gearshifter, the old one was bend. New cylinderkit and crankshaft. The left engine case had a hole that was stuffed with wood, we got that welded. New bearings, seals and gaskets.

Next up, the frame and everything attached to it:

Finally done 🙂

Fole Moped Dragrace 2015

We attended a fun moped dragrace at a large vintage moped meeting. This was our budget racers first test against other mopeds. It went great, if our driver hadn’t missed a gearshift in the final race, we would have taken the golden cylinderhead home that day.

Here is some onboard footage from our budget Monza dragracer:
