  1. Hey, i have one too, i put a giraldone fast cilynder on it and an old 19,19 dellorto that i have to choke to drive propper, runs like a champ now 😉

    gr yzer !

    1. Cool, where do you live? I’ve read somewhere that it was only made for the german market, but don’t know if thats true?

Mine is only a 2,6 HP version with a small 12 mm carb. So it does 50 km/h max. But that’s fine, mopeds are only allowed to drive 30 km/h in denmark 😉

If you need to ride it with the choke on, you need to have a bigger main jet 🙂

      1. Is there any Manuel for it because I’ve just bought one and I need to find out how to fix the mess the previous owner did to it

      2. Hey Carsten, I live in Belgium,
Are you still driving the TM4? i got it back insured this year.
i have one that originated from the German market,
but today i talked to an old guy today from town that drove a old Flandria moped,
and he told me that they where sold in my town back in the days, and that he owned 2 in his life, what are the chances?
They are pretty rare here, and are not of that good quality, so not many survived.
For the moment i have problems with my lighting, they always pop,
maybe because the engine revs higher due to the fast cilinder and cleared exhaust. do you have the schematics of the TM4?

        1. Hi, yes i still use it regulary and find the quality fine. It’s a nice big bike that feels solid with good comfort.

Yes the bulbs can melt if you run the engine faster than normal, also new china bulbs are very weak. I always try to use old stock from know brands like Osram, Philips, Lucas, Stefa etc. But they are hard to find. Spahn is a german brand that still makes new quality 6V bulbs, try them. And use a little higher wattage, like 20-25W in the front and 5-10W in the rear.

I don’t have an schematics, but you can trace the wires, it’s a very simple loom.

          1. Hi, good to hear that your TM4 is up and running on thee regular, i am going to drive it more this summer after a long standstill, yesterday i fixed my lighting in an unorthodox way, i bought new good brand 4w bulbs and made a new circuit, and connected them to a 3S diy lion 3000mah VT6 battery pack that is stored in the back compartment. It’s not that elegant, but it was the quickest fix, and i kinda like it, the break light works as well, and i made a little on/off tumble switch on the side of one of the side panels. I measured the AC current in advance, and i got spikes to 50v, it was this or order parts and dive in deeo 🙂

I also would like to change my 36T with a 33T sprocket, where did you find the blank sprocket? And would you by any chance know the side of the chain? is this a 420 or 415, i can’t seem to find any info about this, thx !

          2. I found the sprocket in the transmission industry, it’s a 415 chain, also called 083B / 083 B-1 in the industry. You can get all sizes, and then make the centre and bolt holes.

  2. Nice build man! I have one too, but I can’t find a manual or parts for it. It’s like they made only a few of them and nobody has any parts left haha. Can you help me? I did got some info from your photos, thanks.

    1. You are right, only a few made and close to no parts available. I found some used parts in Germany and ebay. The engine is used in many bikes, Morini TM4, parts also fit from other Morini engines other than the TM4.
I have some engine repair manuals I could share with you. Can I send them to your mail?

  3. Hey I have been repairing my motobecane TM4 but i have come along some problems….1) my speedometer doesn’t work, 2) the kilometer counter isnt connected

I would also need a few spare parts: any idea where i can buy them?
-connection piece between exhaust pipe and motor block
    -a horn

Also one more question do you have an electric scheme of how your lights are connected to buttons and generator etc?
Is there a manual for this motorbike to be found somewhere, if so all help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

      1. Hi Bert, i used a speedometer drive from a Vespa Ciao. I think i needed to enlarge the bore from 11 to 12 mm. And then use some washers to place it correctly. I think i got the speedo cable from a Ciao also, or a universal.

The horn is just a universal 6V horn, it’s important that you get a AC model, since you don’t have a battery.

These parts, and the Zündapp lock, can be found at https://www.jmpbparts.com/

I don’t know where to buy a exhaust header pipe.

Also i don’t have a scheme for the electrics. There are only two cables coming from the ignition, killswitch and lights. So it’s pretty easy to follow and figure out.

  4. Hi I have a question!
I have one too, But I can’t figure out witch oil I should use for the transmission??
Is motoroil oke ? Or should it be something more specific such as transmission oil?
With oil did you use on picture 37?

    1. Hi Oskar. Use simple lawnmower oil, also called SAE 30. It is very simple, without too much additives. This engine has a wet clutch, and a bronze bushing inside. Modern car engine oils have additives that can make the clutch slip, and gear protection that can corrode bronze bushings. Up to GL-4 is ok, GL-5 and higher not.

  5. Hi guys.

last week i bought a Motobecane TM4 . does anybody know where i can get uc4 pistons and other uc4 engine parts

      1. Thanks, i got a piston (a lokal bike shop made it custom for me) and it works fine. Only i need new clutch spring screws. These special ones i cant find them. Also i need the tork specs for these screws.
Do you have a ownersmanu or some more info?

        Thanks anyway

  6. I had a TM4 back in the days when I was a kid. It was already difficult in the mid 80s to find spare parts. I remember that the engine was Italian made, I believe, and you could use parts from Huskys – perhaps. Do not really remember, only that body spare parts where hard to get by, and I had a few pieces built in a machine shop, but engine parts were easy to find from other makes. There also was a 70cc, and I believe a 125cc cylinder that fit. My friend’s parents got him the 70cc but we could not change the gear ratio bc our village cops used to check them via cardboard templates to see whether kids messed with them. It ran 25k RPM/ They never found out about the 70cc cylinder, though.

  7. Hi guys!
I’ve got a problem with my Motobecane TM4.
    Hopefully you can help me!

The clutch is well adjusted but does not disconnect/work when the gearbox is filled with oil.
That means if want shift to the first gear, the engine turns off.

When I was checking the clutch while replacing the seals it was perfectly disconnecting/working without oil (almost dry)…so it works.
There is enough space between the clutch if it gets pulled…

    I tried different oils…
Sae 80, sae 30 and 10W 40…but the problem is still there.

    Maybe you can help me!

    Thanks and greetings from Germany

    Andy

    1. Hi Andy, i’m 99% sure that one of your friction plates is glued together with one of the iron plates. Even if it’s only one, it will fix the clutch like it’s disengaged. Even if you can see the clutchpack lifting during testing. My TM4 did this too, i got it loose by driving in 1. (push start), holding the clutch in and breaking aggresively. After one km it slipped, but it had this problem after every winther again. So i changed the clutch friction plates and have had no problems since. I’ve had this problem multiple times with italian bikes, the old clutchplates get very sticky after all these years in oil. On one minarelli engine, i had to pry them apart with much force, so i ended with changing the plates there too. I use the reinforced plates from Newfren, they are great. I buy them mostly in italy/ebay.
I just use simple SAE30 oil and it works great, that’s not where your problem lies.

  8. Just a followup, for those who land here looking for motorparts for the TM4 engine, or looking for front and back sprockets,

The Motobecane TM4 has the same UC4 engine and wheels as the Malaguti Fifty,

This MY-FIFTY-STORE store on Ebay sells parts that fit the TM4.
    https://www.befr.ebay.be/str/MY-FIFTY-STORE?_pgn=4&_sop=1
    https://www.myfiftystore.com/

I changed sprockets and went from the stock 36T to a 33T in the back now running 13×33. I went from 53km/h to 55km/h GPS speed, small increase, but gears feel a little better now, and still pulls nice.

I have the stock exhaust, the 2052n cylinder and a Dellorto shbc 19.19 D carburator.

    Hope this helps someone out.
    Gr Yzer
