Adjusting axial play on a Puch crankshaft

Yesterday, late at night i decided to shoot some video footage while i adjusted the axial play on a friends new crankshaft for his Puch MS.

I didn’t plan to make a guide and make it public, but i thought i was interesting enough to do so anyway. The audio is in my finest southern danish 😉

New crankshaft in my Puch MS

I took my MS engine apart again to fit a new crankshaft. The tapered end of the Top Racing crankshaft is a little further out than the original. This is a problem for the fan, it rubs against the outer shield. I put it in a lathe and took 1,5 mm off the inside. I had the same problem with another fan cooled engine and a crank from another manufacturer, i guess the crank shafts are made for the aircooled engines like the Monza etc.

Yamaha FS1 first start.

The FS1 is finished, i just need to make some final adjustments 🙂

It sounds like it runs too rich, but that’s just because the engine isn’t 100% hot yet. My first test drive actually revealed that it needs a larger main jet.
